Philosophy of Colonial Avenue Preschool

Experiences are provided that meet the needs of the whole child and stimulate learning in all developmental areas: physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual.

Colonial Avenue Preschool (CAPS) provides an informal approach to learning. The teacher sets up an environment in which each child has the freedom to explore, experiment, and create with a variety of materials. Each child is a unique person with an individual rate of learning and developing. The needs of the group, as well as the individual needs of each child are considered when planning for the environment.

Interactions and activities are designed to develop children's self-esteem and positive feelings toward learning. Children explore their environment and build the foundations for learning to read and write. We strive to make CAPS an enjoyable and gratifying beginning of you child's school career.

Financial Policy

1. Registration for each school year opens in February for church members and those currently enrolled in the preschool. Registration for new families will begin the following week. A registration fee of $40 ($20 for each additional child) and a completed registration form will be due to secure a place for your child. This fee in non-refundable and includes supplemental insurance. Your canceled check will be your receipt.

2. Tuition is payable one month in advance beginning in August and continuing through April. All tuition is due on the first of each month and will be considered past due if not paid by the 15th of the month. Tuition for September is due on August 1st. A fee of $5 will be charged for a late payment. A fee of $25 will be charged for checks that are returned by the bank.

Policies

Enrollment - we offer classes for infants through five years of age. In keeping with state guidelines, we determine your child's class by his/her age as of September 30. In order to enroll, a registration fee must be paid, and a copy of you child's immunization records must be provided. If your child is put on our waiting list, the registration fee will not be collected until your child is accepted into the program.

School Hours - CAPS operates from 9:00 A.M. until 12 noon. We unlock our doors at 8:55 A.M. and lock them again at 9:30 A.M. If you arrive for school after 9:30 A.M., you should come through the church office.

Inclement Weather - In case of bad weather, we will close when Roanoke County Public Schools close. If there is a one hour delay opening, we will open 1/2 hour  late, at 9:30 A.M. If Roanoke County schools are delayed two hours, we will open on hour late, at 10:00 A.M. We will close at our regular time.

If the Roanoke County schools close before 12 noon, please make arrangements to come pick up your child early. By doing so, everyone can get home safely.

Potty Training - children in our two year old program do not need to be potty trained. We will work with you during potty training. Accidents do happen, so a change of clothing and a forgiving heart are most important! CHILDREN REGISTERED IN OUR THREE AND FOUR YEAR OLDS CLASSES MUST BE POTTY TRAINED.
